 LOCAL MISSIONS

Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS) — COTS provides a range of services to the homeless and needy, including emergency shelter for up to 140 people.  COTS also provides counseling, childcare and employment.

Angela Hospice — Established in 1985 and operated by the Felician Sisters, Angela Hospice provides both in-home and hospice care at its facility on Newburgh Road in Livonia.  It provides services to people of all backgrounds and ability to pay.

Wayne County Habitat for Humanity — Habitat is an international program promoting a partnership with needy people desiring affordable housing.  The Western Wayne County program administers the program in the Livonia area.

St. Christine Christian Services — Serves the Brightmoor area of West Detroit with a soup kitchen, food pantry and services to help people cope with their conditions; serving over 15,000 meals and 7,000 bags of groceries a year.

NOAH (Networking, Organizing, Advocating for the Homeless) — NOAH provides lunches to the homeless in Detroit, as well as counseling, crisis intervention, health care and other services to its clients.  A side benefit from the Rummage Sale is that we are able to send shoes, socks and jackets to NOAH for the homeless.  Thank you Holy Trinity for making this possible.

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan — As a social service ministry of the ELCA in Michigan, LSSM touches the lives of over 20,000 people in the state with over 70 programs in 40 cities across the state.  Programs include services for senior citizens, children and families, and people with disabilities.

NATIONAL / INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS

Southeast Michigan Synod-ELCA — The SE Michigan Synod supports the national and international programs of the ELCA mission and leadership development, campus/outdoor ministries, benevolence, as well as supporting area seminaries and congregation development.

Daudi Congregation, Tanzania — Holy Trinity is a Sister Congregation with Daudi in Tanzania.  This ministry supports the village of Daudi, the surrounding countryside, the Mbulu Diocese’s Women’s Department and Haydom Hospital.

Lutheran World Relief — LWR works in 35 countries, responding to emergencies and seeking lasting solutions to end poverty and social injustice.

ELCA Disaster Fund — The ELCA responds to domestic and international disasters via this fund.  Working with local partners, the Disaster Fund provides whatever is needed to respond to the situation.

BEYOND THE BUDGET

In addition to the budgeted programs, Holy Trinity supports the monthly Empty Pockets program which in the past year has supported women re-entering society from Michigan prisons via support for LSSM’s Heartline Program, ELCA Missionaries in Tanzania, the SEMI Synod BRRICK summer camp program, LSSM Wayne Family Shelter and ELCA Disaster Relief.

In addition to the monetary support for the NOAH program, 400 lunches were prepared five times for the homeless in Detroit.

Holy Trinity also makes contributions to St. Christine’s food bank. In 2010 we partnered with Thrivent and raised funds for Forgotten Harvest through our Pumpkin Patch.

We support Church World Services Crop Walk with walkers each year.

In 2009, there is a large contingent of Holy Trinity members who participated in the Race For The Cure program to eliminate breast cancer.

Holy Trinity supports a large variety of other benevolent work via WELCA, Advent and Lent special projects, Education and other church organizations.
